i really dont no wat ARG is i was hoping some1 could fill me in that would be nice and if anybody else has no idea wat that stands 4 i guess this thread will be useful What is ARG?

ARG stands for "alternate reality gaming". It's kind of like where a bunch of fans go to different websites or locations to try and pass throughout steps of each game (i.e. the viral marketing campaign for Cloverfield) in order to, let's say, solve a really big puzzle.

I'd never come across that term either. I'm more the 'traditional' gamer ... big video game fan. XD

I really am dissapointed that I didn't get into Cloverfield during the pre-release stage, as I would have liked to get more into it. Although someone posted on the LJ Community that it's still good to do it afterwards, so I'm going to see what I can find too.

Half the crap from the ARG turned out to be false, anyways. Like the demon between Marlena and Lily's faces. Well, of COURSE it was hair!

All those false leads, hoaxes and just random and pointless spam.

Fun while it lasted though lol. I wouldn't trade all the time spent fallowing though leads, looking at that dang picture of the girls, and those prodigy vids lol.

But yeah. Cloverfield was the very first ARG I ever was involved with. Don't think I'll join in one again any time soon though. Just about seven months of my life spent doing all this stuff all so I can go see the movie and be driven mad at all the unanswer questions.

I'll just kick myself now because I missed it all.

I just have to find myself place to start, as it's all so daunting to me and I'm getting a bit confused by some people's posts when they don't relate directly to the movie, so I think I'd better go find out what you guys are talking about before I start asking stupid questions. *blinks* Even looking through the archives on the main site here, it's all spinning my head. It's tough being a newbie sometimes.

The despoiler Cloverfield site has some good history on Tagruato and they even have the entire real-time ARG all mapped out (from the creation of Tagruato to the monster attacking NYC). Check it out, it's really cool.
