Cloverfield made a shitload of money. Paramount is going to want a sequel. Even if JJ and Matt are not involved there will be a sequel.
Oh, I totally agree!! You don't 'not' make a sequel to such a huge bankable film. I'm sure that all this talk about possibly not doing a sequel is to only throw eager fans off long enough so that they may film it in peace. They know that the audience and news hounds will be more fierce this time around. It's part of their strategy.
I dont mind a sequel so long as JJ Abrams is behind it.
From what the directors have said, I believe it to be a prequel. More backstory is most welcome.
