From 5:23 till 6:58, what Cloverfield was for me.
On January 18, I went by the locel movie theater that's over 16 miles from my house and at 4:30 and got my movie ticket for the 5:35 showing of Cloverfield. Less then an hour later and doing some personal stuff, I came back, some a drink and some snacks, and settleing in for the long haul. I put all my knowladge and thories in the farthest reaches of my mind as the movie starts. Doing this lets me do this. As an average movie goer, Cloverfield was one of the best monster movies I have ever seen. From the old Godzilla flims, the 1950s, 60s, 70s creature flicks, and some of the moder day ones, this was the best. The acting was ok. Not the best, but could have been a hell of a lot worse. Same thing with the diologe. Not the best, and was a bit cheesy at times, but it was ok. No where near what the RE games had to put up with in the early days. The only real problem I had was what Rob said after the rescue Beth and she see's the beast. "Something that is horrible." And "Something that is also horrible." I don't know why, but they where the weakest lines to me. Maybe because it would have been something I would have said about it. The plot was good as far as New York being attacked by a giant monster is conserned. I could see where a guy would risk life and limb to save the girl he loves. Even why his friends would fallow him. The only real sretch was that the monster seems to be fallowing them in the very last bit of the movie. To the helli's I can understand because the army was blasting at it, but knocking the hellicopter to the ground and showing up just in time to chomp on Hud is pushing it. Despite all this, I enjoyed the movie. It was a dang good movie that had an ending that work. I can't wait to see it again and will be vocal to those who don't like the flim. That's it from me. It was a good movie that atleast 7 out of 10 people should see. Comment are welcome.

Good review, I agree with you on almost everything. Except I thought the acting was not that bad at all. " "The only real sretch was that the monster seems to be fallowing them in the very last bit of the movie. I found this a bit too much to, but well the movie was about those people so I guess things had to happen close to them otherwise we wouldn't have seen much.

That's interesting. I always wondered why Clover just happened to find Rob, Hud and Beth. It seemed like when you saw the scene with Beth and Hud helping Rob get up, you glance to the right of the camera and see some fighter jets headed towards the city. And then a couple seconds later the monster just appears out of nowhere and completely takes Hud by surprise. Nice review, by the way. And you're right about it being a great monster movie, unlike the recent trash that's been appearing like D-Wars and Monster (from Asylum). Memento mori. Remember that you are mortal. Memento mori. My view on that, looked like a smaller monster. The one that ate Hud was not big enough to be bringing down skyscrapers. And the jets were headed to the city to take out the monster, ya think they would have noticed it standing in the middle of Central Park and turn around for a direct hit. Saw it twice, so far, I personally think there are more than one monster. Same with the bridge scene, how can the monster be trashing midtown, and at the same time take out the bridge, than *POOF* back in midtown? Just my thoughts...

JJ mentioned in the production notes, maybe it was Matt Reeves, saying that the monster suffers from separation anxiety (similar to elephants who are separated from their parents) so there's reason to believe that the monster's mother was at the city, was probably the one that overturned the Tagruato oil tanker and set it on fire. I didn't think of there being two monsters, but reading what you guys are saying, it kind of makes sense. That scene particularly, it just didn't make sense for it to just suddenly be there, when every other indication was that it was more in the city as opposed to in the Central Park area. Although even if there were two monsters, I still agree that it is kind of unrealistic that none of them would have seen it 'lurking' in the background when they got out of the chopper wreck. It's like Hud goes back to pick up his camera only to find a monster lurking so close overhead that it can go down and chomp on him. Summoner Yuna... Ok, my theory on the part that I spoke about. -There's a chance that the jets where getting the hell out of there as the "Hammer down" was about to happen. -The monster couldn't have been too far away since it made that leap and knocked the chopper down, so that puts him close to the Park. -Rob and Beth where calling for Hud to come back as he went for the camera, and telling him to run back to them when the thing was right on top of him. So, the reason the jets where flying towards the city was to get out of there, Clover was in the park to start with, just not right there when the chopper when down, and Hud was too focused on the camera to notice the monster. As for the bridge, thats a bit more of a strech. The moster was attacking in the city, but decided to fallow the stream of people going out the city, destoryed the bridge, and went back to the side our people went back too.

If the jets were leaving, then how was the bomb dropped? Right before the explosion while Rob and Beth are talking you can hear some artillery and the monster screaming and when the bomb is dropped you hear her say, "I love you!" and the explosion happens with the monster giving a really loud scream then its dead silent. To be honest, I thought that B-2 that did that lovely bombing run was in fact the start of the hammer down. To be honest, I didn't noticed the jets in the background when the pulled Rob from the wreckage. If they where anything like F-16s then I doubt that they where part of it. But what do I know, I only know how the military did it up until the 70s, I have no concept of how they run things now a days.

Yeah, that scene where the B-2 bomber bombs the monster in the city looked like it could be a hammer-down. All of the explosions, damn -- no one could have survived that. There's no way Rob and Beth survived that hammer-down, unfortunately. Take a look and see.
