Audio from the end of Cloverfield’s Credits

If you were like me at the end of Cloverfield, you wanted to get the hell out of there. Well, as most of you know, you wait, you get something awesome.
There is audio at the end of the credits for Cloverfield giving you a hint of what MAY be in store for a sequel, you know, to keep you in suspense.
Video under the cut, so it doesn’t spoil it for those of you that like to experience things firsthand.
Cloverfield Credits Audio from Jordan on Vimeo.
It sounds like “Help us,” but apparently the audio was reversed, and when it’s played normally, you can actually hear someone saying “It’s still alive.” Listen to the audio clip at boomp3.com.

Holyshoot.
That reversed one is really awesome. You can really tell that it says “It’s still alive.”
I, unfortunately left, because I heard that there’s nothing after the credits from elsewhere, so I’m wondering if this stuff is true. No idea, though.
Go go J.J.
I kind of want to see it again, but I don’t really feel like seeing it in the theaters…Blar. I’m torn.
Spoiler:
So like, any idea who it could be? Robert? Most likely, I guess.
the movie was good, not great, reminded me alot of the host. the monster looked scary but more like he didnt know what the hell he was doing. it was a badly designed monster really, the exploding woman was alittle nasty if i have to say but listening to the guy with the camera being eaten was kinda gross. it was a pretty cool movie but the shaky camera was jus to much to deal with. A part 2 will probably be out next year or the year after that but i dont really see the need for it. alot of missles and stuff like that were used just like regular monster movies. i dont see the big difference with this one. 1 18 08 has some weird pics up now and one is alilttle gory so use caution. Overall pretty good. would like to have seen more of the monster and more backstory. at least abrams didnt totally mess up in this movie like he did in MI 3, well hes working on his new project now and its supposed to be something else big, who knows with him.
I’d have to guess that it’s Rob, namely for the fact that he (and Beth) are there when the explosions occur, and we can only assume that it’s his voice since they were the last two with the video account (that we’re seeing..)
Which means he at least survived the blast at the end, long enough to tell us that it’s still alive. Now whether or not he survived past that, who knows…
I heard backwards talk works like…It gives away what you’re thinking at the time, if you can understand it properly.
There was a whole site dedicated to it a while ago, about the OJ Simpson case, and other stuff.
It’s weird.
Anyway, I think it’s probably Rob, too. Perhaps he’s talking to Beth, or sees something in the distance that might help? I’m not sure if he’d be talking directly to the camera.
As for backstory…I like it better the way it is. I like to think of myself as an intern in the US DoD and I accidently found the tape and watched it. The Government won’t tell me anything else about it, this is allllll I know.
It’s just a fun role-playing thing that I guess lots of people aren’t into.
I’m not sure why you would think the monster knew what it was doing, though. It’s (possibly) never come out onto land before, and for all we know, it’s the only one of it’s kind that has functional legs. (Which is why it comes onto land?)
It’s in a new environment, and all it knows is that there’s little things running around, they might be tasty. It eats them, then realizes that some are much more dangerous than others.
Actually…what DO monsters do? Seriously? They don’t do anything other than walk around and eat and destroy stuff. Godzilla had babies, but that’s about it. Monsters in these movies don’t really do anything.
Why do you think it was a badly designed monster, Matthew? Just wondering.
According to speculation or something, there’s a possibility that they will film it like this one, with someone else’s camera, instead, but the same event. It’s possible that it’ll be exactly the same with different charaters. No idea, though.
The most recent picture appears to be whales.
Also, I don’t see how the movie would use anything OTHER than a lot of missiles and stuff. That’s seriously all we have against something like this. We have bombs, bombs, and more bombs. Oh, and guns, too.
BTW: JJ Abrams’s new project is Star Trek. If you saw the preview before Cloverfield.
It’s true cause we sat all the way to the end to hear it when everyone else left. They did that crap with pirates of the carribean 3 too
I don’t think the Pirates 3 one was worth it.
This one…Same thing. I just…don’t think I could sit through all those scrolling names just for an audio clip that’s likely to be online.
Director Matt Reeves whispers it.
Hasbro will release a Cloverfield monster figure.
http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/ProductsByBrand.htm?BR=863&ID=21030
Hmm, two interchangeable heads. I knew I wasn’t crazy.
Dude, that monster is HELL to make moveable.
Go Hasbro?
Also, I can’t see why anyone would buy a Cloverfield monster for anyone. Especially little children.
Two interchangeable heads is interesting. Seems to suggest…something. =P
I love how they’re not revealing it, too.
Well, there are two scenes in the movie that we get to see it’s face. 1st, when they are running through the streets going to either the bridge or right after they left the military for beth’s apt. You notice it’s kinda dinosaurish and lots of teeth. Which is different from the 2nd time we see it as Hud is right under it, the face looks smooshed like a bulldog or something you get my point. I know I am not the only person to notice this, but it just hasn’t been brought up much.
all i can say is if you don’t remember, i think there are a couple of monster montages up on youtube, maybe it can be proven
I say there’s enough to say this was only a small part of a bigger film.
That last thing at the end and what I heard was cut after the credits…
And some of the pics at 1-18-08 suggest there is more of this movie.
I actually think the was/is the best gaint monster film in years, and more of it will be good.
What does it say in reverse? Its A LION?!? lol man.we had our mistakes.
@broken tripod: i thought the monster was badly designed because to me it looked stupid the way it walked and the way the hands are so huge. it looked like the grither design from tales from the darkside from george a romero and alittle bit like the licker from resident evil. to me it just sort of looked like a person that was a government project gone wrong because when the monster is getting shot at you notice it grabs the building and those hands look like human hands. also when its about to kill that guy whose name starts with an H (camera guy) that face looks like it was genetically morphed. IDK i just didnt like the design probably because it resembled to much of a mutant/person and not a monster. TO tell the truth it wasnt even that big. Remember, this monster was supposed to be as big as a skyscraper but it was nowhere close. Plus! the monster moved like a monkey swinging from trees in the end. Also that picture is of remains but to me those look like tentacles with spikes on them? did the millitary kill another monsteR? i say cloverfield two will be out next year. Oh and i did see the star trek teaser but thats not the big project. A magazine website says that abrams has another untitled project in the works thats hes gettin ready to film for early 2009.
Well, I couldn’t find a Grither design, but you’re a bit right, it does look a bit like the licker…But so does anything else like a human with it’s mouth wide open.
For all we know, it could be a government project gone wrong. It could be a bunch of things.
I didn’t get a look at the hands, really. I thought they looked more like the generic 3-fingered claw.
Camera guy is Hud, FYI.
It does look like a genetically modified human, a bit.
Did you not like Godzilla or King Kong because they looked like a giant reptile and a giant gorilla, respectively? Just wondereing.
Yeah, it wasn’t as big as they seemed to claim it was. It’s armspan/wingspan (I found out a while ago that wingspan = armspan. Didn’t know this for sometime) is WAY larger than a skyscraper.
I didn’t think it looked like a monkey swinging through trees at the end…If I saw it, and people reviewed it correctly, it seems like the front arms dragged the rest of it along. It was just grabbing buildings and using them to pull itself along so it wouldn’t get nailed by our bombs.
Err, which picture? The 1-18-08 picture?
I explained how it is, in fact, whales, on some other comment. Some people also found the actual beached whale picture used to make it. (I’m about 99.9%sure they’re all whales.)
Cloverfield two…that would be lame. I hope they don’t. Or if they do, they should do it from a perspective that allows for some information to be given. An army guy who is also a medic? Gets to investigate what the little creatures are?
Star Trek isn’t the big one? I haven’t heard of the other, I’m not following JJ, really…Perhaps a LOST film? I doubt that, though.
What I’m thinking BrokenTripod is that this was the military going over footage they got/found at the scene.
Next would be the, maybe, two or so months before the attack, the attack itself (told from another viewpoint i.e. an army or airforce guy) and the thing getting away from the NY disaster.
Then we get three where they kill it.
The pic on 1-18-08 when you see an oil rig sinking is what makes me think there’s more.
Also you could just give the camera to military guy’s through the three parts I mentioned above.
I can not wait for the Cloverfield monster action figure.
kids are getting cloverfield monster action figures when they come out…give ‘em to the kids just before they go back to stoopids house…
those might have started as whales in the pics, but i don’t know of a whale that has either spikes, or that short of rounded fins on the side (the lump on the left) the lump on the right could have been a tail section, but the tale portion looks, to me, more like a horn or a tooth.
i still think the pics on the 1-18-08 site are pics that have been reviewed, altered where need be, by the DoD. pixilating the night vision shot due to there being something there they don’t want us to see, same whay the trailer pixilated the army dude’s face before…they were protecting the army.
Me and my boyfriend went to go see the movie last night. After it was over he wanted to stay to see if there was anything after the credits because of the way it ended; no explanation, no anything. But of course we left and i decided to do some research on the movie to see if there was more to the story, and of course, there was. I would really love to go back and see the movie just so I can see what happened after the credits. All in all it was a great movie and it felt so real. I live close by Memphis and on the ride home i just looked out the window and pictured all of that happening. It was crazy. Even though it was not a true story, it looked and felt real.
this story really excites my imagnation… there are so many cool ideas, and theroies that could stem from this movie…i loved the film. and i would love to see additions to it. but as long as they dont go commercial and decide to just lame out and throw a bunch of cgi and explosives everywhere. this is this first movie ive seen in years that actually made me think, made me wanna imagine more about it. if done right they could have a legacy here like alien. for those who say this movie sux, im not gonna argue with you. im just gonna question if you really understood the plot of the movie…
also i doubt the monster was a goverment project… at the end of tha film at the coney island scene you clearly see something fall into the ocean on the right hand side… suggesting an alien lifeform…though how it made to earth is beyond me.
oh btw, if you leave the 1-18-08 site runnig long enough you can here the damn monster roar or w/e… lol scared the shit outta me, wasnt expecting it…
Hasboro action figures are not that good. They do a pretty shitty job on the Marvel Legends. I wish McFarlane would have decided to make the monster, and his parasites. That would be worth the $99.99.
Read my comment about the whales at the end of this page:
http://projectcloverfield.com/2008/01/19/looking-for-cloverfield-reviews-etc/#comments
I think that should explain it…Also, as far as I know, all of those parts of whales are normal. I don’t think any part of it looks like spikes/horns/teeth.
No idea how good the toys will be.
Also, I’ve always thought the pictures on the site were the Government reviewed ones. I don’t really know anyone who has thought otherwise.
Chelle: the stuff you see above appears to be all that was at the end. Credits take about 8 minutes to pass, so I don’t think you missed tooo much.
People speculate that the thing falling from the sky is the satellite that goes missing (There was an article on the Tangurato [Er, SP?] website about a satellite going missing, I think?)
Someone said the satellite may have been hit by a meteor (The monster in the meteor), which is the explaination for what happened…And then the monster is an alien life form.
I personally think that, taking into account all of the stuff we know:
The satellite falls into the water at the end of the movie (May something) and Tanguro doesn’t know exactly where the satellite eneded up, other than the ocean somewhere. So they continue their trade, etc. and send the oil rigs from the oil drilling platform to New York (To trade and/or search for said satellite?) and the monster follows them there.
The monster would be something from the deep ocean that has found a substance that makes it grow. Makes it grow a LOT.
I’ve got more, but I’ve been making monstrous posts recently and it’s earlyish.
BrokenTripod — It’s a satellite. Matt Reeves did an interview which he mentioned this, and it’s insinuated that it’s the satellite that awoke the SEA thing.
Yeah I figured that was all there was to the end after the credits. But it was still a bad-ass movie.
Jordan, i might have to contridict that statement. Which interview was this. The only Matt Reeves interview where he mentions the thing falling in the water is the one with coming soon.net, which one you talking about, which interview?
oh yeah, and what exactly does Cloverfield stand for in the movie, why that name? I don’t want to sound stupid or anything but I was just wondering
Chelle,
Cloverfield was just one of the movie names, essentially it was the “code name” for this movie that they kept.
You may of heard they had several other code names during filimg like “cheese”, “Chocolate rage”, “slusho!”, little codenames like that just to keep everything hush hush.
Cloverfield was just another one of those names that everyone liked and caught on to.
Origins of the name come from JJ Abrams. He states in a previous interview that there is a street outside his office with the name “Cloverfield”, so out of randomness he chose that to be one of the code names, which later became the real name for our beloved movie :-)
One thing we’re not linking correctly is the timeline of events. If the satellite falls from the sky off the coast of Coney Island, at a close enough distance to see the splash made by an object that maintained it’s shape through the fall… then why did the Monster which quietly lived off the coast of New York City wake up and attack the Chuai Station? After attacking the Chuai Station in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, why would it return to New York city for some more destruction? Perhaps that splash (Which doesn’t look as large as an object falling from space would make) wasn’t from a satellite/alien. We’re seen what happens when spall objects slam into our planet - especially in shallow waters. The aftermath isn’t an unnoticeable splash…
We all know that Lily made it. Does anyone else think Jamie lives? She could have woken up (or was carried) and made it to a helicopter in time to get out of dodge. This may mean new J & T videos, and myspace updates. Maybe morning her friends, and telling us more of what happened.
Jarvis, what are you contradicting it with? Aside from you know, saying it. I’m not sure if that was the interview or not (it may be) but there was another one that went in depth about Tagruato’s satellite falling out of orbit, and that being the missing satellite.
I’m googling for the article, since I didn’t bookmark it, so I could be wrong about what I read, or I could be right. Regardless, I highly doubt that whatever dropped into the ocean, is the monster itself.
Because we’ve already established that it’s a deep sea creature–I don’t think that one month underwater is going to make it’s exoskeleton that damn strong.
Besides, personally I’d rather shit a fucking dog out that have it be another space-related Alien. So opting for the satellite is one I’d rather go with, as many other people already are as well, since it ties in perfectly with the ARG.
Your right it would fit in with the ARG, considering Tagruatos “dream team” and “bold futura satellite”, but i dunno. The thing could have been a new monster? An alien monster from outter space, who knows and who gives a shit until we really find out what it is.
Back at stage one….speculation….even after the movies been released lol.
Did anyone else seem to notice all the clocks in the movie? I just came back from seein g it again, and I noticed they made a point of always showing the time? And Spring st. In the subway, Spring st. seemed to be perfectly placed so we could see it. Then later, when they were found, the soldiers were talking about Spring st. Listen up if you go to see it again. Its kind of a stretch, but it feels like someone was trying to make it a point to get our attention.
God it pisses me off paramount decided to fuck up the real time genre mode….it would have made everything so much more simple and made specs easier and better!
you all speculate the origin of the falling object… knowing all this obviously leaked viral marketing. But how many people do you honestly indulge in that? would it make more sense for j.j. to play off a more obvious aproach in the movie. i mean they never mention news of a lost satalite in the movie… hell the slusho drink barelly makes a candid appearance… not to metion its parent company… i doubt the writers copmprised “splash” physics into account when they added that piece at the end… the most plausable theory here is that the creature is alien… whether it fell by meteor, spaceship ( which would mean that it was a diliberate attack, or how ever it got there… a satilite doesnt take a month to sink . and barelly nudging a monster that size would not wake him. it obviously needed that month gap in between time frames to grow. So it awakes its probably hungry, stressed from coping with its new enviroment. it seeks out food… then becomes aggitated with its surroundings… that seems more logical in my opinion…
Hey What I dont understand is how the Slusho corperation is tied to any of the cloverfield stuff.
And how did everbody get Slusho shirts?
Did you guys buy them?
I don’t get why people are saying that the satellite woke the thing. If the thing was there, just off the coast, this whole time, I think that’s pretty stupid…
Okay, now if this IS the monster itself, and it requires a month or so to grow…Do you think that maybe the splash is the alien-monster, from space..?
And then to explain that Chuai Oil Platform attack…That would be a different alien-monster. Earth is being attacked by a different race that’s sending giant, creepy aliens?
And then…to incorporate Slusho…Slusho is the mystical life force that they need to bring back for the fairy godmother so the slipper fits (Yes, this part is intentially stupid.)
Personally, I don’t want to believe it’s an alien, which is why I came up with the whole “searching for the falling satellite” concept. I think it works, too.
An attempt at a timeline: (!?)
1. Deep Sea Monster eats deep sea nectar.
2. Tagruato finds deep sea nectar! (Optionally finds the monster and detains it!)
3. Slusho invented and sold!
4. Slusho sold worldwide! You can’t drink just six!
5. Deep Sea Monster attacks Chuai Station! Ono! (Optionally breaks loose from cage or whatever.) Destroys things. Very hungry.
6. Bold Futura crashes down near New York! (Maybe this and #5 are reversed?)
7. Monster finds whales in the deep blue ocean! Feeding time >=D!
8. Tagruato sends ships to Chuai station to investigate, they go “omg” and leave. Alternatively, these ships were already there and just escaping to the nearest port…New York?
9. Monster notices GIANT whale! It’s actually an oil tanker ship! It doesn’t know this (Like how sharks think humans are seals).
10. Oil Tankers end up in New York, possibly to bring supplies to help find the falled Bold Futura Satellite? Possibly just to drop off their payload of deep sea nectar. Whatever.
11. Monster finally catches up to the slowing tanker and takes it down.
12. [Insert Cloverfield movie here]
How’s that sound?
BeyondTheGates is not possible that the monster under the ocean gets awaken by a satalite and roams around the ocean before it pops up at NYC its not like it cant….. there is no rule that says it cant… if u understand me besides i read the interview to where they say it was awaken underwater i do agree about what u said when it comes to the “splash” physics.
sounds intresting brokentripod…. not sure if that is it but atleast its something
oh by the way there are so many things in the ocean that we have never seen… in the deep ocean that is we have seen less the 10% of the deep ocean…. this thing could have already been that big?? maybe…. i mean look everything on the ocean floor is big… they got crabs the size of dinner tables down there the giant squid which we have never seen alive … need i say more
Tru dat Nathan.
so whats the thing that hits the water then? theres no way its a satilite… cause it was never metioned in the film. and you cant wright a script based on viral marketing that may not even be ligit…the scene was added for a reason otherwise it wouldnt be there at all… so how does this piece fit in the movie puzzle?
BTW:
“In their latest gesture to reach out to fellow man, Tagruato used the Hatsui satellite to try to identify a rogue piece that is thought to have fallen off of the Japanese Government’s “ChimpanzIII” satellite. Although Hatsuiās work has not yet been able to confirm the identity of the fallen piece, Tagruato scientists and engineers are busily trying to track and recover the fragment. According to Hatsui data, it disappeared into the Atlantic Ocean late last week.”
BeyondTheGates: It’s part of a satellite. So what if it wasn’t mentioned in the film? You CAN write a script on whatever you want.
Especially in Cloverfield. None of our questions are answered in the actual movie. It was made to be like that. Everything you saw happened. That’s it. You aren’t given any reasoning.
The last scene was added for a reason. I agree with that. Or it could just be that they accidently caught that on camera (which would be hilarious, since everyone takes it so seriously)
It fits into the story puzzle. There is no movie puzzle. The movie is just a movie. The actual story is the puzzle, it involves the viral marketing, the websites, everything. And I doubt that JJ will actually come out and confirm stuff..? No idea, though.
Also, I just started reading the Tagruato thing. It’s nice.
i cant wait till the movie comes out on dvd… this is one of very few movies i will watch the ommentary on… i need answers to these increasing questions…
I just got back from the movie and have been looking at some of these posts. Many people are making these huge leaps and assumptions. I feel that the monster is what made the splash at the end. But then again, who says there is only one monster? When “it” attacked the bridge, it looked more like a tentacle then a limb. I also saw the monster from below, when Hud is under it and its front limbs looked more like praying mantis arms. Like they were bug like or maybe a bird like appendage without the feathers.
The US Army guy responds: “Whatever IT is, IT’s winning,”
Which appears the strongest argument for one monster. The Hasbro toy has 2 interchangeable heads, but that’s likely mouth open and mouth closed.
The tentacle attacking the bridge, I think was the monster’s tail, or an arm lit oddly. I personally thought it looked like a tentacle, also.
I’m thinking it’s only one monster.
Also:
If the monster made the splash at the end, it would have been near Coney Island the whole time (Growing..?) and then the monster is from out of space. I really don’t want it to be from outter space.
Also, the viral marketing stuff seems to suggest it’s a piece of satellite. Also, the monster attacks Chuai Station (It appears?), so why would it swim from New York to the station, then back to New York? It doesn’t really make sense. Unless there’s more than one (One hits NY, the other hits the platform)
which could be very possible… i mean there were little guys running round ya know… and it obviously produces some sort of toxin or even bacteria, possible a parasite that is contracted trough blood contact…
BrokenTripod: I see that you dont want it to be alien… but not many people know about the viral marketing story lines. therefore it makes it hard to add content to a movie that no one will understand… so you add something that makes more sense…if it was a satilite it would have fallen at a much greater speed and volocity… not to mention its size and it would have not gone unoticed that close to the shore… now purposely droping a larva,or pupil stage creature into an ocean to thrive and then attack… sets for somthing truely terrifing… cause if theres one, theres bound to be more right? if it was a sea creature why would the satilite play any kind of role at all n the movie? it doesnt make sense… tats my opinion
People have mentioned that it looked like the monster didn’t know what it was doing. But for some reason clocks were displayed in a lot of the shots, so it seems there is emphasis on what time things were happening. Also on places, Spring street comes to mind. Maybe someone should keep track of times and places ad actually track the characters path as well as the monsters, maybe that would tell us something more?
i kinda dig the whole thing about it growing for a month underwater which would probably mean that when it woke up and attacked the city it wasnt fully grown which is why it looked big but not as big as we heard it was supposed to be. Explaining why the body part looked so small and the arms and hands were so long and big IE deranged mutant project comment i made earlier. SO if it only grew in a month then the monster in this movie isnt fully grown yet which could aslo explain the little arms that looked like praying mantis arms. come to think of it, i saw the monster parts at the end when it was being shot at in the city and again when it attacked hud on youtube(somebody has a video) and to me in a funny way it looks like a toddlers way of crawling. Plus the monsters size, it was big, but not gigantic, only the arms were. NOW those look like full grown arms but the rest of the body seems incomplete. now go back and look at the second trailer for the movie and where we were first introduced to the monster. Noticeably different design, size of a skyscraper. now is it possible that we got a sneak peak for the second movie, in the first trailer? because looking at the monster from cloverfield and the monster from the trailer, I highly doubt there is a mistake.
Jarvis, stop spamming the comments with your website. Thanks! :)
@BeyondTheGates - The same theory of the satellite’s crash to earth and the lack of a “crash” can be applied to something falling from space.
Assuming it would survive the whole Earth atmosphere bullshit fire crap, it’s falling at a velocity of SHIT! so it should make the same sort of crash, regardless of size. Unless you know, it pulls a Chicken Little on us.
Regardless, I still think making it an alien is fucking lame… I like the idea that it’s just something that mutated or hell, exists without our knowledge similar to War of the Worlds (excluding the fact it was alien based; I just mean that it was there all this time without us knowing.)
Either way, ALIENS ARE DAMN LAME.
Yeah i agree, Aliens, as in extra terrestrials that have there own planet / species / way of life and are just invading is very lame and gay.
not spamming Jordan, just a single post :D dont have enough time to post up here really, sorry.
lol i don think its lame haha… played out a bit yea maye… but not lame… either way i think we all agree that the movie completly owned godzilla and america has something we can call our own… gotta a question for you though…if the creaature gave off somesort of bacteria how come we were so devestated by it? if hes been here all this time… shouldnt the yeilding organism be just as old thus shouldnt we be far beyond immune to it?
Jarvis, I don’t care that you don’t have time to post here–you don’t have access to post here now anyway. But I’ve already had to edit a few of your posts spamming your website. I’m not just doing this to you, but to everyone else that spams their own personal website in the comments.
Beyondthegates - Well, if we didn’t know of the creature, we can’t necessarily be exposed to whatever is within it, now can we? Sure it’s in the water, but they said that it was the bite that caused the infection. Pretty much the same as with a jelly fish, snake bite, etc. We know of it, but sometimes it can still be lethal to us.
Yanno?
Yeah i just came on to post updates cause i felt bad abandoning the site lol. I thought something was wrong with wordpress but figured it before i saw ur comment Jordan to verify. I’ll still come on to comment i guess :-)
Yeah its cool, i wasnt really spamming but i get your point.
@ BeyondTheGates - If we couldnt detect the monster with our sonar technology, hence meaning that the monster was really really really deep in ocean, humans would not have interacted with the “bacteria”. Like someone said in an earlier post: “about only 10% of our oceans have beeng discovered” this leads to suggest hundreds of sea animals humans have NOT interacted with. Now, humans suddenly do react with this monster and its bacteria, therefore a brand new bacteria has been discovered and its created a devastating effect.
word… that makes sense… so im guessing the oil rig woke the thing up while drilling pissed him off… he trashes the the and makes his way to nyc? that seems simple enough
hahahahahahaha your all wrong the monster was just born!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i just saw it on ign.com they interveiwed the director. there is no way it just woke up!!! it was a freakin baby dude ownage!!!
@Beyondthegates - I don’t think it’s ownage when it’s all speculation that we’re speaking here. A few of PC readers already mentioned this in another entry, that the creature was too small compared to one of the trailers that had already been released..
Mentioned that perhaps they tried to subtly show us that the monster isn’t fully developed yet. I mean, when you think of it, look how odd the body was shaped. The length of the arms compared to it’s body? So misproportioned.
It’s like puppies. Some of them have HUGE ass paws, and skin hanging off of their body, so they can grow into it. So I mean, if this thing is just a baby, I can totally see it.
But my question is WHAT THE FUCK GAVE BIRTH TO IT. AND HOW LARGE WAS ITS VAGINA.
[…] good job of leaving viewers with still more mysteries and unanswered questions. What does that guy say at the very end? Did you catch the thing falling from the sky in the very last scene (I didn’t). Is the […]
im tellin you it was diliberatly placed on earth… hince the falling object it could have been dropped at 8,000 feet or so and survived i mean they nuked the bastard and its still alive so… its gotta be alien!
that object was way to small to have been the monster falling into the water, like everyone keeps saying, i think its also a satelite
They didn’t nuke the bastard. I mean, clearly it’s still alive… AND it was only a “hammer down” that was performed.
dude its a tactical nuclear explosive… thats the only thing that would yeild that kind explosion… im military, i know a thing or to about these things! and incase you havent read the earlier post matthew1808… we said it is a baby which means it had to be smaller than what the movie showed when it was produced or delivered, hatched or how ever it was concieved… im tellin you its not a fuckin satilite… i already proved it wasnt some old creature that woke up…
The monster was not a baby, They look exactly the same in all of the trailers that were released and the movie. And it wasn’t nuked, it’s called a hammer-down where one or more plans drop their entire payload on a designated target i.e. Central Park. That splash at the end probably holds no relevance to the monster. It’s just a satellite, and because if it was a monster, it wouldn’t have tied in with the events of the Chuai Station incident. Seriously, you guys are looking way too deep into this whole thing. There is only one monster, and that is the one that attacked NYC. Besides, the reason it looked so small in the movie was because it was lowering itself like a hunchback. Near the end it appears really big, contrary to what some people may believe. It only appeared small because Hud kept zooming in on the monster before getting eaten like an all-you-can-eat buffet. Besides, JJ already said the monster wasn’t an alien waaaay before the movie even came out. God, just wait for an announcement or something.
Besides, you have no proof it was an alien or a baby, besides for narrow-minded speculation from a scene that almost 90 percent of the audience cared to even pay attention to that much.
BTW: We’re not aruging that it IS a satellite.
We’re agruing that it’s a PIECE of a satellite. That’s why it so small.
Also, you don’t see much of the explosion. How can you tell that it was nuclear? Seriously, we’re just looking at a pile of rocks when the explosions happen. There’s a flash of light and the camera goes off. Also, the army guy explicitly says it’s a Hammer Down.
I can see why you’re getting tired of Cloverfield, Pr0LiFiX. I’ve only been here for like 5 days and it’s getting quite repetitive.
im not arguing this point any more because quite frankley your wrong and i do have proof… the fucking director said it plain as day that it was in an interveiw… im through with this debate peace out and enjoy the rest of your evening…
Okay, don’t get so defensive, dude…hahaha XD
Frankly it doesn’t matter what the fuck it was because I don’t think it’s gonna play such a big role in the Cloverfield ARG. Think about all of the stuff we thought was relevant to the movie, like Slusho! — turns out that didn’t play a role in the movie except for the fact that Rob was promoted as vice-president of Slusho! Jason or Hud says this, I’m not sure.
Anyone else find it interesting that the Tagruato website was taken down and I guess looked over by Department of Defense, Internal Affairs whatever it was? I guess they saw the Tagruato oil tanker that was on fire, during the scene in the Brooklyn Bridge and got suspicious of them.
I guess we should keep a close eye on Tagruato and Slusho! because TIDOwave basically became dead, looks like they vanished from the face of the earth, lol. XD
The newest article on Tagruato’s website makes me think that Ganu Yoshida knew about the monster. I’ve been thinking that maybe Ganu Yoshida unleashed the monster on the Chuai Station himself. Maybe Ganu has this connection with the monster and is able to control him. I mean, you guys ever think that maybe the monster was in NYC for a reason? And that all of a sudden it capsized the tanker and ran amok throughout the city with its parasites attacking the military and people? I’m thinking that Ganu unleashed the monster in the city to find Rob Hawkins who was appointed vice-president of Slusho! because maybe they both have some dark ties with Tagruato. In the process, everyone else is involved etc. Just an idea.
i think it was a transformer that scanned a human getting raped by godzilla’s baby and it came back to find its daddy.
it was a turtle swimming backwards towards russia while singing the french national anthem in mayan.
IT WAS ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what ever it was, i certainly took a big crap on the big apple. my guess, it paid full price for non-refundable knicks season tickets and then realized they suck.
The movie was not so much about the monster as it was about the people who were affected by the monster. So much was revealed about the characters’ lives in the course of the seven-hour disaster, that the monster really seems like a moot point. If we weren’t invested in the success of the characters, the movie would have been terrible. That being said, it seems like the movie was about Rob and crew’s journey to find one another again, just as they were about to be split up for a year or more.
That being said, the movie lost so much momentum for me every time they showed the monster in its intensity… it was much scarier in my mind.
or, rather, showed the monster in its entirety. Sorry, I feel a little burnt out after that movie…
i completely agree with you… i think thats why so many people dislike this movie… its a love it or hate situation because people dont understand the plot… it isnt about the monster but the people who expierienced this tragdy the monster is only a antagonist og disaster…
I’ve seen New York destroyed in so many movies that I actually kind of jaded when the “parasite” attacked, that’s why I personally feel like the creature was simply a moot point/ backdrop for the more serious story of the young people who lived it… Rob’s love must have been intense to brave a building that was about to collapse, not to mention tarantula creatures and the semi-giant, inter-galactic sea alien from the third dimension’s banned military mutation-projects… I dunno. The monster makes little sense, but I could relate to the people. What would you do for the people you love? Tough question, considering the many myriad dangers this film presented.
What would you do for the people you love? That’s what the movies all about. It’s not just about a monster attacking a city and raping buildings, it’s about what you’d do in a given scenario such as the one presented in the movie. I enjoyed the movie because I knew what it was really about.
And his friends, Hud and Jessica (Angela? Jason’s girl..) were the real deal, they stuck it out for their friend even through the losses of their own significant others (Jason on the bridge and the creature breaking out of the girl “Alien” style). This film was full with excellent acting, dialogue, and the shaky cinematography, for what it’s worth.
I agree with everything you just said, awestph,
But her name is Lily, not Jessica. ^_^
thanks for the name. And I felt that the undercurrent of the film, being the metaphor for the archetype of the fall of iconic structures (like the empire state building, the brooklyn bridge, and the statue of liberty), also bears a strong metaphorical message - after the archetypal image of the “falling towers,” we set out to defeat an enemy and ended in forlorness. Forlornness, more specifically, as evidenced by the fact that the monster could not be destroyed. hmmm… In realk life the events events took place seven years ago and are still happening now. Makes me think, this does…
hey, awestph, click on my name and look through my blog. I got an article that explains the origin of the monster.
I think that this movie was good not because of what it was about, but how they told the story.
Jumping back to what the creature was: I just saw a banner ad for the movie that said “Something found us” that seams more intentional than a baby getting lost in the NYC and crashing up things. If it was seriosly lost, why did it attack the bridge, and then walk around the city getting shot at. Why not just get back in the water and run away.
Secondly. The bomb at the end was not a Nuke. The moster was WAY to close to them for the nuke to only have knocked the bride down on top of them, it was clearly something a little less destructive. I dont think the GOV. would nuke a city, because of all the waste and fallout.
About the end audio durring the credits. I found a site that had the sound bite played in reverse and it sounded, clearly, like whoever it was talking, was saying “Its still alive”. Ill see if I can find the link and post it.
Heres the sound file played backwards. Not a clue if it is legit or not but I want to believe it. Gets me all pumped up for round 2.

as much as we can confide opinions into each other the only way were gonna know the background to the rest of the movie is to wait… i think we should give it arest for a bit hell te movie just came out.. we have plenty of time for speculation… all will be revealed in time.
Thats no fun though :P
I gotcha, prolifix, that’s interesting about the manga and everything in relation to Rob leaving for Japan.
However, like any piece of literature or entertainment, we must take the story based on the information that is explicitly offered in the film, either aesthetically or in the actions and dialog of the characters.
There was no in film reference that I can remember which was made in regards to a sea monster off the mid-atlantic ridge, nor was there a reference to the rogue satellite that awoke the beast(’s mother?).
Taking the film at face value simply leaves no explanation for the origins of the beast, manga or no manga.
I certainly hope that if this is based on manga, however, that we get some kind of follow up in either written or animated format. That would be pretty cool.
In the meantime, I can honestly say that the monster simply wasn’t that impressive, and its significance waned in comparison to the sincerity of the human characters’ respective situations. That’s all.
Continue with the monster talk!!!!!!!!
This movie heffing sucks.
It makes me think too much.
Now, I’ll go ahead and combine the “Production notes” on Pr0LiFiX’s blog with what he said about Yano.
I’ll construct it like my other timeline (Somewhere else) for simplicity and so I don’t add too much detail.
1. Giant Mother creature lives underwater.
2. Chuai Station drills. Whatever. Possibly is a guise for Tagruato, they are experimenting with the creature. Perhaps.
3. Tagruato’s satellite network allows it to keep an eye on the creatures so they don’t get away, if they do, they are tracked down.
4. Mother gives birth to minature monsters. Tagruato thinks this is cute. They find out ways to alienate the thought process of the monster (Tell it what to do).
(ARGG I left 1-18-08.com open. GRoooooawrrr)
5. Tagruato’s satellite above the monster falls. Possibly wakes up the monster (Which means it happens in place of 4)
6. Tagruato loses track of the monsters they tracked (due to the fallen satellite), the mother comes up and makes Chuai Station explode. The young one(s) get away.
7. Tagruato, in attempt to make sure they don’t get away, drops something from a satellite to attract the young ones for easy round up.
8. Thing dropped in 7 lands near New York. Bad choice. Maybe because they were last seen heading for that direction, or they wanted somewhere to be able to stick an oil tanker, in which case a port make sense.
9. Tagruato sends oil tanker to New York, meant to use sonar to detect and detain the monster before it does anything bad.
10. The monster grows faster than Tagruato thought. Monster is too large to be carried in the tanker. They realize this before it is too late.
11. Monster flips tanker, Cloverfield Movie occurs.
~~~
Alternatively:
Tagruato attempts to use a signal to pull the young away from the mother. It works. Little one grows because it eats Slusho! product. The “real” mother is actually quite small and harmless. (This fits in well with the Slusho! legend. The mother is small, goes to find the thing that makes her bigger. She disappears [After having children]. Child is separated from mother, discovers super-size potion.)
Anyway, since Tagruato only has a GPS location of the monster, it doesn’t know that the monster has increased 10x in size, which is why they don’t warn anyone.
Also, the mother could be huge, and the nightvision navy/airforce bombing we see could be them trying to take on the mother (It looks waaay off the coast, so either the army knew about it previously [Dude, they respond so fast to Clover] or this event occurs afterwards.)
There’s a bit to think about. Feel free to find holes in it. It’s getting too late for my thoughts to process normally.
thats national guard bro… plus there is a military base in new york… called Ft. Drum… and i agree with awestph on the fact that adding info derived from outside sorces other than the movie only complicates the situation… doesnt realy help you figure ay thing out…
haha, I was browsing some comments on CloverfieldClues and this one just made me laugh. xD
“Maybe we’ll get lucky and Hasbro will sell a limited edition “object crashing into the ocean” playset for $99…”
hahaha, so true. xD
I saw it today, it was amazing, and all i can say is that it was just so real and the story makes me want to understand everything thats going on. I know lily made it out. But since the government found this tape, that means that the monster was destroyed eventually? I heard that a sequel with other people video taping the same night might be on its way and the bridge scene shows another man talking video. Scary!!!!! not really, but i think there are so many possiblilties that this story can contain and thats why its so interesting. i would be really interested to see if they add extras for Dvd or even try and make a whole series such as FINAL FANTASY 7 and the multiple timelines that intersect with one another creating a beautiful world of fantasy and mystery. Although the plots are different, isnt the theme the same? Memories right? Watching this means that its present and that eveything we see has already happened. AHHH THERE ARE SO MANY THEORIES. I guess we can only wait and see what they release next, but the suspense and cliff hanging ending adds the the drama and realness that not everything in life is always answered or turns out ok. And so i end with how real this movie was.
supposedly this is supposed to be our american godzilla series. in the original godzilla, the two girls had the power to control mothra and tell him what to do by a huanting song aria. Maybe thats the type of power yoshida has over this monster in a different type of way.
