Where are you seeing the movie at?
Posted on January 10th, 2008 at 1:47 pm in News |
So I know most (if not all) of the Projectcloverfield.com viewers will be going to see the movie next week on Friday. That is if you live in the States.
Anyway, I’m feeling a bit friendly (despite ahem, a few slight comments made towards Jarvis, but you all love Jarvis, so that more than enough makes up for it) and want to ask you guys this question:
Where are you going to be seeing this movie at? I don’t what to know that it’ll be at “a movie theatre.” Because you know, I ain’t that dumb. I just want to know what City/State/Movie Theatre location. Perhaps other readers live in the same town as you (although if you’re officespacejk, I highly doubt it. Middle of nowhere FTL!), and maybe PC readers and Cloverfield obsesses can all go see the movie together.
I know that I’ll be in Wichita, KS for the movie on Friday. I’m not sure exactly what theatre (I don’t live in Wichita; I’m just visiting my boyfriend), but if you live in the area, leave a comment and maybe you can join our group (there’s like 5-6 of us excluding a girlfriend and a wife, if they don’t come.. and I’m sure we’re all going to talk about Halo 3 and be obnoxious) if you want.
Consider this an informal MeetUp opportunity. Take advantage of it? Oh, and ♥. I have to make up for being so coldhearted sometimes.

What a clever idea, Jordan… anyway I’ll be watching Cloverfield (on Jan 24th, because we get movies a week later here) in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico at the Caribbean Cinemas at the Aguadilla Mall. I doubt there are other readers that will be watching it there though. D:
btw, I hope it meets the hype. I can’t wait~!
Anibas…I’m close by.
Trinidad,Movietowne on the 30th.
(moved here for oil job).
I will be seeing this movie on the 18th. If by some chance I win a pass to Rob’s party, I will see this movie in NYC on the 18th. If (when) I do not win. I will see this movie in Warminster (philly burbs). Either way, my girlfriend, who has had to hear about this movie for the past 7 months will be along for the ride.
Well, I’m from Venezuela (Caracas), and here should be on theaters by February 2nd. It’s kind of a letdown but I can’t really complain, at least they’re showing it up 21 days after the USA Premiere… And if you think that’s a lot of time, let me tell you that The Fountain (I waited that movie for soooo long) was released on November 2006 in USA, but here it was released by August 2007.
At least I’ll be a little busy by January 18th, after all that’s when I Am Legend will be premiered here. I’m gonna buy my ticket soon.
yup, i’m in BFE michigan, also known as mount pleasant, the flatest mountain ever created.
i’m going friday, w/ my 8 year old daughter & 10 year old son…probably the only disfunctional family in the theatre that night…but…that kinda fits w/ my little disfunctional family.
Unfortunately, while I’m a HUGE fan and dying for this movie, I can’t see it at all. I will have to download it.
I live in Japan, and I find it horribly unfair that it’s not coming out here at the same time, because hell, it seems like Japan has a huge part in the cause, so we should be getting it at the same time!! >.
By a bizarre stroke of luck I’m flying in from the UK (it’s not out until Feb here) to LAX on the day of the 18th. So somewhere in LA LA land I would imagine. Cannot believe my travel plans worked out like that. Lots of jealous friends here. Will be the equivalent of around 5am when I watch it so will be suitably spaced…
I’ll be going on the 18th at the Valdosta Stadium 16 in Valdosta, Georgia. I know a few people in the area who know about the movie, but none who have kept up with it as much as we have.
I’m sure I’ll see them at the movies, but i won’t be with them. Let me know if any of ya’ll are where I’m at lol.
Well, I can’t see it on the 18th because my art and design school has a strict policy on playing hooky. Oh, and the fact that the closest theatre (being the Marcus Theatre) will probably be jam-packed with sweaty nerds and old women throughout the day. So I will most likely see it over the weekend because Milwaukee is a place where almost all transportation revolves around the city bus and some taxis. I would go in a taxi, but I have this distinct fear that the Statue of Liberty’s head will topple onto the street and crush me while I am inside the taxi. Oh, and because the city bus is cheaper.
Good luck to everyone who’s planning on seeing the movie on opening day/night/weekend. If you don’t die from the constant long lines, then you will probably die from actually missing the movie. I don’t know how that is possible, but the important thing is to see the movie as soon as it comes out.
I will probably bring my girlfriend along with me also, just so she can witness how awesome the movie is. That sounds like a good idea. Woman + Monster Movie = Great Movie Review!
ok, when did the website look change?
hey officejk, looks like i’m at least in the same state as you!
i’ll be in metro detroit at whichever theatre is showing it at midnight [at least, i hope one of them is]. i’ll either go alone or with my brother, who was into the arg in the beginning but has lately slacked off and gets his information from me in huge chunks now. XD
ill be over in new rochelle new york (thats westchester county for all you that arent familiar with new york) at the imax theater. Well its actually one imax and the rest regular theaters but they are all great tho, its the cleanest movie theater ive ever been to. I dont do the midnight movie thing anymore cuz the last time my friend and I went to one in bay plaza and we almost got shot cuz people were letting guns off so ill probably be out there around 9 or so. If anybody on here lives close to westchester county come meet me!!!!
WARNING! While this post does not contain story SPOILERS, it does contain things that ARE NOT in the movie that we know as being Cloverfield related. Proceed with utmost caution when reading this entry.

Well, let me be the first to say that I already saw it. They showed an advance screening on the campus of Michigan State on the 10th. Security was pretty tight. They used metal detectors and searched for all recording devices.
It was a packed house, and 95% of the crowd was heavily anticipating seeing this movie. As I walked up and down the line of people waiting to get in, I could hear them all talking about the viral ad campaign, all of the website stuff, and speculation was abound.
I didn’t worry about the line even though it was first come first seated because I had the hookup. My buddy knew a girl that was a campus volunteer, and the guy that runs the movies owns a video production company and is my friend’s boss.
The guy from Paramount gave a little speech about piracy and how even a camera phone screenshot was a felony, blah, blah, and how we would be one of the first audiences in the country to see this movie. Yak, yak, yak…..start the damn thing already.
I have to say with all honesty that you all must prepare to be underwhelmed. It was boring and dragged for the first 20 to 25 minutes or so. I mean really dragging.
The characters are flat, and I didn’t care about any of them. I have a position about movies that it can be the worst story ever, and if you get me to care about even one character, I can enjoy the movie.
Let me say that not only did I not care about any characters, but the story is mediocre at best. The dialogue is cheesy. Not good cheesy either, it’s bad cheesy. Shaky hand cam? It spoils the emotional moments in the movie. Because of the shaky cam, you don’t get to see many reactions of the characters in this traumatic situation.
I do admit that the monster is pretty cool. I think it looks creepy scary, and I don’t have a problem with the cgi. I think it’s pretty well done. That said though, the monster could have looked like anything because the focus isn’t on the monster, it’s all on the love story.
Yet, my biggest beef with the whole movie is that after months of speculation, viral marketing, websites, myspaces, slusho, any and all of that………….it doesn’t matter. None of that is used in this movie. NONE of it.
Slusho? Not mentioned.
Tagruato? What is that?
Teddy? Who?
TIDOwave? Nada.
Japanese recipes? No eating.
I am not going to discuss story particulars in this forum though. Even though I didn’t care for the movie, I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, unless you personally want details. If you do want details of the story/movie, you can send me a myspace message at myspace.com/comic_utopia or email me at theohiostateguy@yahoo.com.
But please, don’t take my word for how bad the movie is. Go see it and judge it for yourself, but I already know that’s what you are going to do.
well, we know thats fake…no ohio state guy would ever associate w/ anybody at michigan state.
buckeye’s, spartans, and wolverines mix together like….tidowave & tagruato
lmao.
I wanted to get you a message office, I had three extra wrist bands and you could have gone, but I didn’t find out about it until I got to the auditorium.
I will give away a couple of things though that won’t hurt the story.
1. In one of the trailers, the building that is falling and leaning up against the other one…….that’s where Beth lives. Hud says some pretty silly stuff, and it’s a funny moment.
2. The movie takes place in May, that’s the reason for the warm weather……it’s almost summer. lol
how can you be in the metro area, and be an ohio state guy? you can’t be that far from ypsi & ann arbor…you move here from ohio?
Jordan, please delete that link I posted.
Will do, Jerry :)
@office- I live in Lansing, about 2 minutes from the MSU campus, and about an hour away from Mt. Pleasant.
I grew up in Monroe about 30 minutes south of Detroit, and 10 minutes north of Toledo OH.
My dad is from Akron/Canton/Barberton area, about an hour south of Cleveland, so his sports likes influenced mine. I do have to say though that my obsession with sports has far surpassed his.
Yeah, not only am I a sci-fi/comic nerd, but I’m a sports nerd too.
@jerry, gotcha. i’m pretty familiar w/ that issue, but i’m not quite as hard core as my dad. i’ll route for MSU anytime they aren’t playing UM. I wont route against OSU unless they are playing UM or MSU. he’d rather see OSU go 0-12. but i digress
i’ll be in GR tomorrow, at a bar on fulton called putt puttz from about 8-12ish, if anybody is around southeaster michigan. i’ll be the big loud funny one.
CORRECTION…south western Michigan, not eastern…
i’m half retarted…from my mothers side…genetics, its not my fault
CloverfieldClues is posting positive reviews of the movie. Not that I don’t belive ya Jerry. I am just hoping the good reviews are correct.
THAT HAD BETTER BEEN A FAKE IMAGE OF THE MONSTER BECAUSE IF IT ISN’T YOU JUST SPOILED THE MONSTER MOVIE FOR ME!!!! ZOMG!!!11!
…
(jk, Jerry) xD
I honestly don’t think I can wait a week for the movie.
Jerry, I honestly don’t believe you can hate the movie after all of the viral marketing campaign that’s been going on. I mean, you can’t say that there’s no mention of Tagruato when the capsized oil-tanker clearly has the Tagruato company logo on it. Slusho! I wouldn’t be surprised…actually, I am — wasn’t that tied into the entire plot of Cloverfield? Teddy, no mention? Maybe Teddy is the monster, I don’t think so.
BTW, that image of the monster looks way different than the footage shown in the second trailer — but looks similar to the new monster footage on the new TV spot.
Where did you find it, Jerry?
I found it on flixster.com, but I had hoped that it got deleted before you all saw it.
Sorry if it ruined anything, but it looks cooler in the movie. More sleek, not as scaly. To me it moved kind of like Gollum.
Oh, hmm…well, if anyone does want to see the movie, check out my channel: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Pr0jectCloverfield
I know, my old one “Pr0LiFiX” got deleted because I was out of the Cloverfield buzz for a while and just recently got back in.
EDIT: not movie, I meant monster XD
Jerry,
Reading what you wrote, is further proving the fact that I think this movie is going to bring TEH SUCK. Especially since we’re been so involved with this whole other story about the movie.
Then again, I’ve never partook in an ARG before; Is it common that the ARG is never played into a movie/tv show? Isn’t usually just a separate reality created to give you more backstory about something, rather than wasting more money on it IN the movie/tv show?
Actually, Jordan — I think that’s exactly why ARGs are created. This is my first ARG that I’ve participated in, also, so no worries. I hardly think the info from this viral marketing campaign will actually degrade or make the movie better. Everyone has their views on the movie so the best course of action to take is to seperate both of them so you won’t think about all of the backstory while watching the movie.
Some of those stills are actually older ones, I believe.
You are right Pr0. Keep them separate. I should not have gotten so heavily involved in the arg aspect of it, but that still doesn’t affect the weak dialogue and lack of character development.
Despite all the outside stuff that was intended to get us to care for the characters, it couldn’t make me care once I finally saw them onscreen.
Actually, I disliked all of the characters except for Marlena. But, you already know what happens to her. lol
I guess the reason that I think it’s bad is that I expected so much more out of JJ and company, and it just seems to me that they didn’t deliver.
LOST to me, is very good. Cloverfield was mediocre at best.
Saw an early screening last night, but I can’t wait to see it again. I’m checking FilmMetro for more available screenings.
I posted my review and some very crude drawings of the monster at www.kidreviewer.com. I was too tired to draw more than five minutes, but I’ll try to offer more this weekend.
The movie was a blast, lots of action. If you get motion sickness easy, take some drammamine. 4 ladies at the G’ville showing felt queasy.
I saw your artwork and I know you were tired so it doesn’t look that detailed, nor does it look similar to the concept art that Jerry provided earlier.I have a supposed picture of the monster on my youtube account, so if that IS the monster, let me know, KidReviewer.
Pr0LiFix - That very well may have been concept art for the film, but it’s not the final monster any more than a concept car is the street version. That art doesn’t have enough bullk, the spiny hard-shelled back doesn’t look right. Back legs maybe too skinny, fronts are okay. I didn’t see the 3rd set of appendages. The monster seemed to be very grey all over, like modeling clay. But then it was nighttime in most every scene, with smoke, rockets, etc. But that art didn’t look like it to me, even though it might be closer than my crummy attempt. It seemed really thick, not poised to sprint.
Well, in the production notes, JJ and Matt Reeves did say that they went through some visual effects changes with the monster (so changing the colors and adding an extra set of appendages seemed to do the job for Double Negative and Tippet Studios.
January 10th Gainsville, FL
(I’m a Buckeye going onto the UF Campus wearing all SCARLET AND GREY!)
Went and saw the movie on the 10th. It wasn’t a movie that left me thinking about it non-stop afterwards, and I even had a 2.5 hour drive home from gainsville. It WAS a movie that I really enjoyed during. I WISH I WISH I WISH there was more to build the story in the movie befor and afterwards but, It was still a great movie.
CHEERS
Yikes!
That had to be tough last year. Man, I hate the Gators.
I’m glad you weren’t as disappointed with it as I was. I guess I just expected more.
yea, the online campaign was awesome though. Real fun to take part of. Doing all the quizes, going to all the sites. I hope with all this background we got that there is a prequal or a sequal to the movie to incorporate Tagruta, T.I.D.O.wave, Slusho, JamielovesTeddy, the CLOVERFIELD itself. I enjoyed the movie but, want to see the background and everything else that we are apart of online.
I wouldn’t have drivin’ 2.5 hours away into a city I hate if I didn’t expect ALOT!!!
I am shocked a bit it was only like 1.5 hours long too.. Thought it woulda been more like 2-2.5 meh IDK, 4star movie neways
I lol’d at the second one because the expression was priceless. I guess it really can be called MGP “Mr. Grumpy Pants” now. The first one, though, looks very similar to the one Jerry posted and the one on my video. When I see the movie I will make sure to use my camera phone and take it out to shoot random shots of the monster and then post them up on my youtube page.
WARNING! Don’t watch this video if you don’t want to know what the monster may look like.
It looks alot more like the second picture on the video, except not scaly or armored. Smooth skin on the back.

Oh, I thought for a second I was the only one on youtube who used that image in a video. Apparrently, both designs were created by the fans who caught the January 10th screening and both images are dead-on except for the face, I’ve heard.

KidReviewer - Please refrain from posting further spoilers in the comments here at PC. You had no disclaimer, and pretty much fucked up the movie for me by mentioning what you did in the comment.
Do it again and your comments will get sent to spam to prevent from ruining the movie for other people, from lack of a spoiler warning,.
Jordan, please delete any comments of mine that you see fit.
I don’t want to unsuspectingly ruin it for anyone, especially you my dear.
;-)
hey, im in wichita, my normal band of friends is not seeing this flick, and i would totally go with some people i met on the internet =)
Thanks for the extra preposition, in.
Jordan,
My sincerest apologies. I really don’t think you’ll feel any loss when you see how it all rolls out, but I won’t say any more. I saw a bunch of other stuff that no one would know posted, so I thought it was fair game to toss a tidbit here or there. I completely understand your concern. Again, my apologies to all. If you want to delete all my posts, I’ll respect that.
KidReviewer
Blake, I don’t think we’d mind either (there’s a bunch of us Halo 3 nerds that are going–I think maybe 10 of us altogether excluding some of their girlfriends..), but the only question I have to ask is: Are you 21+? Or at least 18+..
Thanks KidReviewer :)
Hey, whats up guys and gals.
Sorry Ive been absent from the site for a while. Been super busy with work. Anyway, I’ll be watching Cloverfield here in California in the Burbank AMC Theatre.
I havent looked into buying pre sale tickets yet, i dont know if that will even be possible. But i cant wait to watch it…. I didnt wanna read all the comments, but i did a search for “california” “burbank” and “LA” and didnt see any results…. anybody else in my Town?
Im thinking of making a shirt out of my poster that I made a while back so that people know who I am ;)
anyway, take care guys and hope to see some fans out there too!
-Richard Cabrera
w00t!!
Just bought my tickets for both me and my gf!
Im there!
-Richard
I ALMOST made it to a pre-screening… I was all set to get the tickets but then I overslept and missed the deadline to respond. Ugh.
So anyway I will be seeing the movie most likely in Skokie, IL (suburb of Chicago) at Village 18 theater.
w0w!…..
just w0w.
VERY good movie!!!!!
Im not gonna talk about it in detail though, I hate spoilers!
but if you havent watched it…. WATCH IT!
This is one of those movies where half of the people that see it will LOVE it and the other half will be ass holes….
Just kidding, its a Very unique film by far. I thought it was WAY good. It really brings the audience experience into the film. you feel as if your taking part in the film with the cast. A few times i heard grown ass men screaming in the audience, rofl. its really good, check it out!
-Rich
Yeah, it’s soooooooo unique. There hasn’t been a movie made like this since Blair Witch Project!
“Oh look, there’s soap in my coffee.”
How many other zombie movies are there? millions. How many Killer movies are there? millions. How many Alien movies are there? Millions. How many movies, use the creepy Dark Blue light to show ‘night time’? Millions. How many films use Loud music to show fear and suspense? millions……. How many movies use the free hand cam look to help bring the movie a sence of realism? One (blair witch)(… and a bunch of youtube n00b films).
My point is: Yes, this camera work has been done before, but only ONCE. are you saying its not a good feel for the movie? Im not saying its the first movie to ever use any of these effects, im just saying that the director knew what people like and gave them what they wanted :D
Reminds me of my co worker who always complains about Guitar Hero:
“Oh!! People Like Guitar Hero so they buy it!! Oh! Everybody likes the name Guitar Hero! Oh! Hey kids! Look at me, im playing a fake Guitar!!! Im having fun playing this fake Guitar!! Why would they even make that game?! Everybodys buying that stupid game!!”
me:
“uh… yeah, thats why the creator made it…. People sell what people want.”
lol
anyway, I thought this was a very good movie :D
:P to you Jerry!!!
lol, jp.
well, you are entitled to your own wrong opinion.
lol, I’m messing with you.
I’m glad you liked it.
