Want to win some 1-18-08 swag?

Posted on August 29th, 2007 in | 37 Comments »

J.J.Abrams.net and Paramount Pictures proudly bring you the online giveaway of ‘1-18-08′ Comic Con Posters and Slusho T-Shirts.

You can win 1 of 15 posters and t-shirts. How can you get your hands on both or 1 of the 2 items? It’s simple.

Here are the rules

Since we don’t know much about the film other than the sound of monster and the teaser trailer, it’s time to imagine what it could be.

To enter your chance to win, you will write up 1 page version of how you think the story will flow from beginning to end along with a sketch of the monster. Now I know we are not all good in sketching like myself but do have an imagination to come up with ideas and stories.

The story, sketches or drawings or whatever that format it may be, will be posted on this thread.

You are allowed to tell your story in video format as well using YouTube or similar site. How? Be Creative

How Winners Will be Picked:

1) Top 7 Best Stories and Best Sketches will win t-shirt and posters. So that means each winner will walk away with poster and t-shirt.

2) The runner ups will be selected for poster or t-shirt.

Remember, this is a serious contest and open to anyone and everyone. No spamming.

Anyone who comes to the board to post nothing but jibberish or steals other people’s work (believe me there are ways of finding out) will not only be kicked off the contest but also the board.

Deadline is September 20th, 2007.

Enjoy and Good Luck.

After weeks of waiting for anything to come up about Cloverfield, the followers got what they wanted, sort of. It was discovered that a roar had been added to the 1-18-08.com website. After 6 minutes, a long roar would commence and leave some people wetting themselves. Prior to that, it was clear that some of the loyal following began to get bored with the movie and, in some cases, people just ‘dropped out of the race.’ I find this completely understandable. JJ Abrams’ decision to show this teaser 6 months in advance was a brave one. How could he add to the hype for half a year and at the same time, keep everyone intrigued? Well, it has been almost two months and that question still has yet to be answered.

In the beginning, there were updates on a consistent basis, which in turn made it possible for sites such as this one to grow in popularity. Waking up, getting on the computer, and going to all the Cloverfield blog sites has become a routine of mine. It has come to the point that stopping this routine would be equivalent to blasphemy. I have spent hours and hours researching, posting, theorizing about this movie along with thousands of others. In some message boards it is becoming hostile. Some kid who may have just seen the trailer comes on the message boards having just figured out the pictures on 1-18-08.com flip, writes about it and gets verbally attacked for his tardiness. It is a shame that things are getting to that point. Movies are a form of entertainment that lead to brilliant discussions and debates, not verbal abuse. It is not just newcomers to the movie that get yelled out, no, even veterans of this quest to find more are attacked. Why are they attacked? Well, they could have been researching and come up with a theory that, in their mind, is entirely plausible. Even though it might be feasible, if it sounds stupid or doesn’t make sense in the context of what was seen in the trailer, they are called out.

Of course, this cannot be entirely blamed on the people who post the abuse. JJ Abrams has said that there are a lot more websites dedicated to this movie, but we haven’t found them yet. He chooses not to give ANY hints and leaves us in the dark. So, we find any phrase in the teaser, type it in, and hope it’s a website. Nowadays, there is a lot more viral marketing and it will only continue to grow. All kinds of games are marketed online and because of that, some of those websites are mistaken for websites for Cloverfield. A prime example was ethanhaas. People were so sure that it was related to the movie, especially because of the skyline in the background gradually becoming destroyed. In the end it turned out to be for a game called AlphaOmega. This may seem like common sense to must people but don’t assume anything. That is probably one of the best pieces of advice I can give someone.

Anyway, although the roar might suffice for a week, things will begin to get nasty again. We cannot simply eat these crumbs JJ gives us. We are a hungry people. I don’t think we need official things on consistent basis more so than hints on a consistent basis. That way, it keeps us thinking and on our toes. It actually might be better to give hints rather than official sites or what not.So, in conclusion, JJ if you’re out there somewhere reading this think about your marketing process right now. Do you really think it is safe to assume everyone will stay with this movie for the entire 6 months? In my opinion, I do not think driving people to the point of insanity is the way to go. Dropping hints consistently will get the job done, I believe. Keep in mind that I can give you all the advice in the world for marketing this movie, but it is your duty to these loyal fans to follow through and give them the best damn monster movie of all time.

A new poster? Who the hell knows.

Chris sent in this image via email to me. I can’t confirm if this is legitimate or not. I haven’t paid attention to anything about the movie as of late, so if this has already been debunked, comment letting me know and I’ll edit the post to reflect so!

Cloverfield Poster?

Edit: Thanks guys for letting me know! I honestly glanced at it, then blogged about it. Can’t focus on anything but getting a job done, that I’ve been working on for 13 hours now :3

1-18-08.com now roars!

Posted on August 24th, 2007 in | 9 Comments »

UPDATE: Thanks to unfiction for the sound file here.

Breaking news: When you pull up the 1-18-08.com website and let it sit for exactly 6 minutes (there is that special number again), you will hear a long roar that sounds like the ones from the trailer. This appears to be why the site was down yesterday. They were adding this roar! If at all possible, could someone record the sound and save it as an audio file, so we don’t have to keep pulling the site up?

1-18-08.com website gone?

Posted on August 23rd, 2007 in | 11 Comments »

UPDATE 2: Slashfilm had gotten word regarding the website mishap around 2:45pm Thursday and according to them, as of 9:00pm PST the website was back up.

UPDATE: It looks like it is back up and running. I have no idea what that was all about.

The official 1-18-08.com website does not show you the pictures anymore. It now directly links you to the Paramount website. However it is still possible to see the website with the pictures by going here. Lots of speculation going on at this point. Ideas I have seen have ranged from maintenance, mistakes, changing release date, and making an actual website that has information about the movie. There is really only one thing we can do right now which is wait. Yes, wait, even more. Hopefully, this is the break we all have been waiting for. Keep your fingers crossed.

Hey guys, this is Ray. I’m a sophomore at Virginia Tech and being at college I have a lot of free time so hopefully I can be a long time contributor here.  I will start with a bit of older news.  On slusho.jp the happy talk section has been updated with brand new quotes. Two of which are quite interesting.  One of them mentions a story about a whale who swam up the Thames River in England.  This, is in fact, a real story that occurred over a year ago. In that same quote the girl asks if they have Slusho in London.  The speculation that rises from this would be, does the monster attack all over the world in port cities?  We don’t know of course.  The other quote is just simply “BLOOP.”  I am not sure if you guys are familiar with the bloop story:

In 1997 NOAA detected an ultra low frequency underwater sound in the southpacific ocean.  It has been said that this sound would have to be from an animallarger than a blue whale.  Its interesting.  You can read more about bloop at Wikipedia or go to this site to actually hear the sound file bloopwatch.org/thebloop.html.

Before I get into some hardcore rumors, I would like to say something about previous post about rageofthegods.com.  I really think that this has NOTHING to do with the movie.  A guy over on the IMDB boards said that there is an RPG game coming out September ‘08 called “Fallout 3″ that is probably linked with this website.  On rageofthegods there is a date 9/15/08 which would correlate with that.  The game is a post nuclear simulation from what the official site says.  I really don’t know why people would think ‘rage’ would be related anyway considering there is a rat on the main page and God forbid if ‘our own monster’ is a giant rat. I think I can safely say - that site is debunked.

Well, that brings me to the rumor that 1-18-08 will not only include a giant monster, but raptor like creatures that chase the people and eat them.  I found this on the following websites: darkhorizons.com and dreadcentral.  I cannot tell you if these sites are credible because I simply do not know.  I do know however that the fellas over at slashfilm have said there are no raptor-like creatures: slashfilm.com. From what I have read before, slashfilm is more credible than other movie websites. All three of these posts have been put up in the last day or two so it is interesting how all 3 have sources that are saying different things.  In my personal opinion, I have no idea.  Part of me wants to say that if the movie will focus more on the characters, there will be raptor like things.   If it doesn’t then it will just be one big monster.   It all depends on what kind of movie our boy JJ wants to make.  I think I will end it there.  Thanks for reading! Let me know what you think!

Meh, I’m still dealing with my own life right now, but I am going to try to get back into posting here at this website. Unfortunately, I did not write that last entry. I got a few emails asking me why I wrote about it, and well, I didn’t! Each entry display the author of the entry. As some of my loyal minions (yes goddamnit, you are minions!) would agree with this, I do not write about crap like that. As a matter of fact, I am cynical and very doubtful of various crap out there.

Anyway, there’s a couple of people I recently gave posting privileges to (and some I revoked), like this d00d Jerry ;), this kid AndrewT just to name some off. I know there hasn’t been much going around lately, but… keep this site active or something. I don’t want it to die :(

RageOfTheGods.com: New site?

Posted on August 18th, 2007 in | 50 Comments »

Hey guys, there’s some rumors around the net referring to this apparently new viral website that may be related to Cloverfield, www.rageofthegods.com. Although this site doesn’t give out so much, there’s a few coincidences with things that we already know. For instance, the “–” in the title, as the 1-18-08.com site, the number six and stuff. However, in some sites I’ve read the extended whois info about this website, and it seems like it was created abut 12 days before 1-18-08.com, that’s why many people has debunked this site, but I’m begining to think that maybe, just maybe, the site creation date may not be a true reference, because the 1-18-08.com site was created in march 30th, 4 months before we even knew about Cloverfield, and this site was created just 12 days before it… So, it could have something to do with it.

Anyway, I went through the site and I found some interesting info, that I haven’t seen in anywhere else. First, of course, the main site:

00

The image of a rat with a japanese kanji, the text field with no submit button, and the blurry thing above the rat image. The 6 digit cancel code is kinda interesting, hofwever, there are no javascript functions or anything that can capture that data, so, moving along…

The website in matter of seconds redirects to a flash file, that shows the following series of numbers one after another:

rageofthegods_01.PNG rageofthegods_02.PNG rageofthegods_03.PNG

And then fades to black, without showing something else. I noticed that the last series of numbers is the same one as the flash filename. I tried to change the secuence to the ones showed in the flash, but it just shows the same info, so, I did this:

I inputed “*.*” in the ur, resulting in http://www.rageofthegods.com/*.*, and this is what happened:

*.*

As you can see, a series of 6number sequences are shown in the bottom of the page. The last one seems to be a date, 09/15/08, and the (6). In the title of the site, there are only 5 numbers, the date is not shown.

http://www.rageofthegods.com/19924.html <- There are many code url’s like this one, popping out in Google. Unfiction declared it Out Of Game, but, who knows… What are your thoughts about this one?

Cloverfield The Next Box Office Smash?…

Posted on August 15th, 2007 in | 12 Comments »

I was browsing the net for the latest news on Cloverfield and saw an article over at Couriermail about how Cloverfield could be the next blockbuster and they gave reasons on why they came up with that statement. One would be the trailer that was shown before Transformers where it gave no title and just showed a leaving party and a flying statue head and it gave the impression something big was on the rampage and from there the buzz started.

Its a good read check it out by clicking here and discuss if you think its gonna be a big success at the box office or not?

Project Cloverfield Still Needs Contributers

Posted on August 15th, 2007 in | 9 Comments »

I had a couple of people respond to wanting to post here but so far none of them have contributed a single thing. The one person that did wrote two lines in their post and pretty much read like “I think there’s a monster… Yeah, I’m pretty sure there’s a monster.” Sorry but that kind of crap will not be posted here.

If you’re capable of using proper grammar and English, along with being sarcastic/witty/etc, then for the love of god, send me an email telling me you want to write some things! I’m really just looking for someone that wants to keep this website updated with the latest about the movie, whether it’s about set photos, or the rumor mill.

I don’t want to let this website die, but right now I don’t have a lot of free time to surf around and truly stay into the loop with things. A few of you are always commenting on my entries.. Get off your lazy butt and help post here! ;)
