JJ Abrams speaks at Comic Con

Posted on July 26th, 2007 in News | 1 Comment »

“I want a monster movie, I’ve wanted one for so long. I was in Japan and all he wanted to go is to toy stores. And we saw all these Godzilla toys, and I thought, we need our own monster, and not King Kong, King Kong’s adorable. I wanted something that was just insane and intense. It’s almost done shooting and I watch dailies and I’m more excited for them. We have 6 months before this comes out. We’re going to have a whole bunch of things, a whole bunch more.”

“You think we’d call it Monstrous? No…”

Slusho T-shirts at Comic Con

Celina, a mod for Unfiction Forums is at Comic Con and just recently snapped that photo.

Exciting to finally see some “hard” evidence! Stay tuned, because we’ll have lots more updates throughout the day.

Wikipedia, aintitcool.com and Cloverfield

Posted on July 26th, 2007 in News | No Comments »

Hey all. I hope we’ve all been having a great summer thusfar.

As previously mentioned, things involving myself and Cloverfield have slowed down a bit recently. I had written up a draft of a little humor article about the craziness behind keeping the wikipedia article on Cloverfield sane and by the book, but honestly, I couldn’t write it in a way where I felt it was funny to anyone besides myself. So I scrapped it. And things there have finally calmed down there anyway. It’s just so funny how, despite plain english warnings that wikipedia is nto a place for general discussion on a topic (only on article inclusions, which are subject to various guidelines), people still continue to resist, argue with, or ignore the guidelines. And then they bitch when their dumb comments are deleted. Kids, I guess. But now, as a result of the chaos, there is this absolutely huge warning on the top of the discussion page about not during wikipedia into a forum or blog.

As I have been saying, the way insider info is coming out now, and given that I’m trying desperately to avoid spoilers (and I’m almost never that kind of guy), my choice of Cloverfield topics to read and write seem to grow more limited by the day. Fortunately, this article was posted by Moriarty of Ain’t it Cool News. I figured my correspondence to him about Cloverfield (covering past events, including the wikipedia stuff) would be a fair contribution to this great blog.

Monstrous info hits the fan

Posted on July 26th, 2007 in News | 3 Comments »

A loyal reader of ours sent me an email with a link to AICN’s latest post about 1-18-08. I don’t visit that site at all for any news simply because I refuse to support individuals who are scooping stories elsewhere and claiming it as their own.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Before calling it a night, I just wanted to post this up. We’ve been getting tons and tons and tons and tons of fake Cloverfield stuff. Tons of it. I might be putting my foot in my mouth again, but I hear we’ll be seeing, at Comic-Con, an official announcement of the title and the rumor I heard today was that it was going to be called MONSTROUS.

When I heard this, I immediately thought of a couple blurry poster images we’ve been sent that had that title. So, I wouldn’t say it’s a confirmation, but I think it’s very likely that the below poster is for CLOVERFIELD. We’ll know more tomorrow, as I’m sure if there is an announcement it’ll be during the Paramount panel. Enjoy!

That poster looks pretty familiar doesn’t it? Oh wait, yeah, it’s because it was the picture that an Unfiction user (and a bunch of other blogs) posted after waiting until Wednesday to get a better shot of it. How very disappointing AICN, yet again you’ve proved to me that your website is pure crap. Hell, the uncropped Monstrous poster is the original photo.

Monstrous Poster

In other Monstrous news, Entertainment Weekly has posted up a clean title-less (as seen above) version of the poster for 1-18-08. They don’t explain much about their version of the poster, except to say “Now he’s upping the intrigue with this teaser poster.”

Edit It’s now confirmed that this is actually the real deal. The poster will be featured in the August 3rd edition of the Entertainment Weekly Magazine.

Here’s the scan from the magazine, as well as a higher-res image of the new poster sans “Monstrous.”

And as for the leak of the Monstrous poster itself, it appears that someone from IMDB “knew” the person who put it up for sale, Cloverfieldparasite.blogspot has a longer explanation of Luanna Jo Brown, the supposed lady selling this poster.

Let the speculation begin…

Later today we are supposed to hear the official announcement from Comic-Con about the movie’s official title. I was very dismissive over Monstrous because it seems so vague. It would seem to take away the focus on what exactly the monster is, and focus more just on the horror of the moment. The initial pictures I saw leaked of the supposed movie poster were blurry and at a distance. I also found it suspect that someone was selling the movie poster at a random comic shop. Way to keep things under wraps!

However, the posters could have been delivered early by accident, or stolen, or whatever. When a high-resolution, up-close picture surfaced, the poster looked more and more real. Either someone made a full-scale mockup poster with some high quality art just for a hoax, or improbably enough the poster just ended up at a random comic book store for sale for $15.

So what do you think? Is the title Monstrous, or is it something else?

1-18-08pedia.com and Comic Con updates.

I was looking through Project Cloverfield’s analytics and came across a new 1-18-08 related website: 1-18-08pedia.com. So with that being said, definitely take the time to bookmark and obsess over 1-18-08pedia.com.

Also, as most/all of you know, tomorrow is the official start for Comic Con out in San Diego, California. Why do we care? Well, JJ Abrams is going to be there, and according to Ken Tarallo, Abrams is supposed to be releasing the title for the movie.

We will be updating as much as possible tomorrow with news on the title of the website. Anyone else excited to finally find out the title?

Greg Grunberg has been cast for 1-18-08

Thanks to a Project Cloverfield reader, Casey F., for sending this to me. It looks like Greg Grunberg has been cast for the 1-18-08.com movie.

One movie that Abrams is casting Grunberg in is the buzzerific disaster flick known only by its myriad working titles (i.e., Cloverfield, 1-18-08, Slusho). “It’ll probably be something where no one will be able to tell it’s me,” he said. “As you know, J.J. calls me his good-luck charm, so he’s got to put me in there somewhere. I actually went to the set the other night, and it was really exciting and cool. The budget is not astronomical. But they’re doing incredible things.”

Pop Candy over at VH1’s Best Week Ever blog has posted again about the 1-18-08 movie. Nothing really interesting, but still fun to see the movie getting buzz.

Though I’m disappointed about this site not being linked, especially since Cloverfieldnews.com made it up there. *shrugs*

Remember when we told you about JJ Abrams‘ latest incomprehensibly mysterious project “Cloverfield”, and how soon all the insane Lost conspiracy theorists will have something else to arbitrarily torture themselves with? Well BAN Member Pop Candy brings us the scoop on the very first fanboys claiming to have the figured viral marketing riddle all figured out.

More ‘Cloverfield’ dissection

The Internet is abuzz today with some folks who think they’ve solved the Cloverfield mystery. Is J.J. Abrams‘ new project called Monstrous? Does it feature the three creatures of the apocalypse: one on land, one in the air and one in the sea? Check out the theory and see if it adds up.

New design here at Projectcloverfield.com

For those of you that are currently online you’ll have noticed that the design changed. Don’t worry, you didn’t break anything! For the past few days I’ve been trying to get up though I was getting severely distracted by my favorite mIRC channel, #slusho, and my boyfriend to accomplish it.

If you notice any issue off the bat, let me know by leaving me a comment! There’s a few errors I forgot off hand (pages, navigation) and will be doing live-edits, do don’t worry if it breaks on you, only to fix itself later.

Any complaints, compliments and critiques are welcome!
