Monstrous info hits the fan

A loyal reader of ours sent me an email with a link to AICN’s latest post about 1-18-08. I don’t visit that site at all for any news simply because I refuse to support individuals who are scooping stories elsewhere and claiming it as their own.
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Before calling it a night, I just wanted to post this up. We’ve been getting tons and tons and tons and tons of fake Cloverfield stuff. Tons of it. I might be putting my foot in my mouth again, but I hear we’ll be seeing, at Comic-Con, an official announcement of the title and the rumor I heard today was that it was going to be called MONSTROUS.
When I heard this, I immediately thought of a couple blurry poster images we’ve been sent that had that title. So, I wouldn’t say it’s a confirmation, but I think it’s very likely that the below poster is for CLOVERFIELD. We’ll know more tomorrow, as I’m sure if there is an announcement it’ll be during the Paramount panel. Enjoy!
That poster looks pretty familiar doesn’t it? Oh wait, yeah, it’s because it was the picture that an Unfiction user (and a bunch of other blogs) posted after waiting until Wednesday to get a better shot of it. How very disappointing AICN, yet again you’ve proved to me that your website is pure crap. Hell, the uncropped Monstrous poster is the original photo.

In other Monstrous news, Entertainment Weekly has posted up a clean title-less (as seen above) version of the poster for 1-18-08. They don’t explain much about their version of the poster, except to say “Now he’s upping the intrigue with this teaser poster.”
Edit It’s now confirmed that this is actually the real deal. The poster will be featured in the August 3rd edition of the Entertainment Weekly Magazine.
Here’s the scan from the magazine, as well as a higher-res image of the new poster sans “Monstrous.”
And as for the leak of the Monstrous poster itself, it appears that someone from IMDB “knew” the person who put it up for sale, Cloverfieldparasite.blogspot has a longer explanation of Luanna Jo Brown, the supposed lady selling this poster.

Monstrous, huh? Hmmmm. Nope, I don’t like it. Gives too much away. Something like “We’ll miss you Rob” would be much creepier, preserve that hint of uncertainty about what the threat is.
Also, it didn’t occur to me until I saw the skyscraper replaced by a smoke plume… but yeah, that is REALLY drawing the WTC parallel pretty thick there.
Not that I mind that.
